Render selected PDF pages as images

PDF.js renders chosen pages sequentially at 96, 150 or 200 DPI. Each JPG or PNG signature is checked before local download.

For a reliable result

  1. Load the PDF and choose page numbers or ranges.
  2. Select JPG for smaller files or PNG for lossless output, then choose DPI.
  3. Inspect dimensions and visible content in each downloaded page image.

What changes

Rendering turns page text and artwork into pixels. Form widgets and annotations are excluded, so field values and comments may be missing. JPG is lossy; PNG can be much larger.

Check the download

Use higher DPI for small print, but avoid unnecessary resolution for screen use. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

Know before processing

Pages render one at a time within device pixel and total-output budgets; only a bounded number can be converted per job.

Quick answers

Should I export PDF pages as JPG or PNG?
JPG is usually smaller for photographic pages. PNG keeps sharp edges without JPEG artefacts and can suit diagrams or text, but its files are often larger.
Why might the output use less detail than requested?
The renderer respects the device's safe pixel and total-output budgets. Very large pages or large selections can therefore be bounded to avoid exhausting browser memory.

Export page images and check the rendered appearance

PDF to Image renders selected pages as individual JPG or PNG downloads. Use it when a page needs to become a picture for a presentation, reference image or visual review. Each selected page becomes one image; the tool does not extract the separate photographs embedded inside the PDF.

The output turns page drawing content into pixels on a white background. Text is no longer selectable PDF text, links are not interactive, and the renderer disables annotation appearances. Filled form widgets and comments can therefore be absent even when they are visible in a full PDF viewer.

Your situationRecommended approach
You need an image of the page's main layout.Select the relevant page positions and compare the downloaded image with the source. If form or annotation appearances matter, verify them separately rather than assuming a full viewer screenshot has been reproduced.
Fine text and line drawings matter more than file size.Try PNG and an appropriate resolution. PNG preserves the rendered pixels without JPEG compression, but it does not preserve vector text, increase source-image detail or include disabled annotations.
You need a photograph from inside the page.Use Extract Images from PDF for supported raster objects. Rendering a page includes surrounding text and layout, while extracting an object recovers that image independently.

Export sample pages 1 and 3 as PNG images

The five-page sample contains clear page labels, an illustration and a form on page 1. It lets you compare page content with the annotation appearances omitted by this renderer.

  1. Choose device-document-lab.pdf and select Load PDF pages. Enter 1,3 in Pages to convert.
  2. Choose PNG — lossless for Format and 96 DPI — screen for Resolution. JPG quality is disabled because it does not apply to PNG.
  3. Select Convert selected pages and download both result images. Their filenames identify source pages 001 and 003.
  4. Open the PNGs beside the source PDF. Check the headings, page labels and illustration, and notice that the sample form's widget appearance is not part of the rendered output.

Expected result. The result should contain two PNG files, for source pages 1 and 3. For this A4 sample at the requested resolution, expect approximately 793 × 1122 pixels; the actual listed dimensions and any device-limited notice are the values to check.

Check the downloaded result

  • Open every required image and compare its source page number with the intended selection. Save both outputs before leaving the page or selecting Start over.
  • Check image dimensions and fine detail, not only the requested DPI label. Device pixel limits can reduce actual rendering resolution, especially on large pages or higher DPI settings.
  • Compare page rotation, colour, text and edge content with the original. Use another rendering workflow when the source depends on annotations or unsupported dynamic form appearances.
  • If the image is for print, inspect it at the intended physical size. A high-resolution page image cannot recover detail missing from a low-resolution scan embedded in the PDF.

Troubleshooting

A form answer or comment is missing from the image.

This renderer disables annotation appearances and XFA support. Those features may display in your PDF viewer but not in the exported page image.

Try this: Use a viewer or export workflow that includes the required appearances. If a fixed visual copy is acceptable, flatten a saved source first, verify every value, then convert that copy.

The exported image has fewer pixels than expected.

The requested 96, 150 or 200 DPI is constrained by the device's maximum page-pixel budget. Oversized pages may be reduced automatically.

Try this: Read the dimensions listed beside the download. Use a more suitable device or desktop export workflow if you need a larger guaranteed raster size.

Conversion stops after a size or page-limit error.

Page images can be much larger than compact PDF text and vectors. The tool limits selected-page count and combined output bytes.

Try this: Convert fewer pages at a time, reduce the requested resolution or try JPG. Recheck readability after any quality reduction.

Limits and compatibility

Image output
The interface provides individual downloads, not a ZIP. PNG's lossless label refers to encoding the rendered raster; it does not mean every original PDF feature is preserved. Output backgrounds are white rather than transparent.
Local handling
The PDF is rendered in your browser and the source remains unchanged. Password-protected files must be unlocked with a known password first. A bounded preview set and conversion-page limit may show or select only an initial part of a long document.

Your files and form values are processed on this device. Downloaded copies remain wherever you save them. See how to check local processing and our privacy policy for site data and optional services.

Common questions

Can I keep page text searchable inside the PNG or JPG?
The image contains pixels rather than the PDF's text layer. Use the original PDF or a separate text extraction if selectable text is required.
Why is JPG quality unavailable when I select PNG?
The quality setting controls JPEG compression only. PNG encodes the rendered pixels without that lossy quality adjustment.
