Create separate PDFs from explicit page groups
Split PDF turns one document into several downloads according to the groups you enter. Each comma-separated page or ascending range becomes one output file. For example, 1-2,3-5 creates two files, while 1,2,3 creates three one-page files.
Use this when a document contains sections that need to be shared or stored separately. Page numbers refer to positions in the selected file, starting at 1, rather than printed labels. A cover or unnumbered introduction can make the printed page numbers different from those positions.
Plan the files before entering their page groups

Split five sample pages into a two-page and three-page PDF
The sample's visible page labels let you verify both the split boundary and the order within each output. Keep the original while checking the separate downloads.
- Choose device-document-lab.pdf and select Load PDF pages. Confirm that the source has five pages.
- Replace Output ranges with 1-2,3-5. Use a comma between the groups, not a semicolon.
- Select Split PDF. The summary should report 5 input pages, 2 output files and 5 output pages.
- Download both files from the result list. Open part-01 and check visible page labels 1 and 2; open part-02 and check labels 3, 4 and 5.
Expected result. The first output should contain two pages and the second three pages. Each file keeps its selected pages in ascending source order. The visible printed labels remain unchanged even though each viewer starts counting the new file at page 1.
Check the downloaded result
- Open every downloaded part and check its first page, last page and page count. A successful first download does not establish that the other files were saved.
- Compare the groups with your intended sharing plan. Overlapping ranges increase the combined output-page count, while gaps intentionally omit source pages; neither is automatically an error.
- Check forms, annotations, bookmarks and cross-page links in the new documents. Copying pages into separate files does not guarantee preservation of every document-level feature or reference.
- Rename the verified parts descriptively if needed. The generated part numbers follow your group order and do not infer section titles from the document.
Troubleshooting
- The range field rejects my entry.
The parser accepts individual positions and ascending ranges separated by commas. Semicolons, descending ranges and positions outside the document are not valid split instructions.
Try this: Use a pattern such as 1-2,3,4-5 and check every number against the reported page count. Use Organize PDF for reversing or changing page order.
- I got separate files when I wanted one selection.
Each comma-separated group becomes its own PDF. The splitter interprets 1,3 as two one-page outputs.
Try this: Use Extract PDF Pages for a single file containing pages 1 and 3, then inspect that output's page sequence.
- Output pages do not add up to the input count.
Groups can overlap or leave gaps. For example, 1-3,3-5 includes page 3 twice, while 1-2,4-5 omits page 3.
Try this: Compare the ranges with your plan. Adjust overlap or omissions if unintended, regenerate from the original, and check both resulting files.
Limits and compatibility
- Grouping limits
- A job accepts up to 25 output groups, along with the device's source-page and total-output-size limits. Downloads are individual PDF files; there is no combined ZIP download in this interface.
- Copies and retained originals
- Splitting processes the PDF locally and creates new documents. It does not remove pages from the original. Keep the original for later corrections and retain signed originals separately from these modified copies.

Common questions
- Can I split an encrypted PDF?
- Unlock a document you are authorised to process with its known password first. The splitter does not prompt for a password or bypass protection.
- Will the parts get new printed page numbers?
- No. Existing numbers are copied as page content. Add new visible numbering separately if the recipient needs each part to begin at 1.
