Make a readable PDF from notes, with predictable formatting
Use this converter for notes, instructions and checklists. Paste into Document text or import a .txt, .md or .markdown file. It creates a new PDF containing selectable text without modifying the source file.
Markdown recognizes three heading levels and unordered or numbered lists. Paragraphs wrap to fit the page. Inline emphasis markers are removed rather than rendered as bold or italic, and links become their label without the destination. This is limited note formatting, not a complete Markdown publishing engine.
Choose a layout that matches the document
| Your situation | Recommended approach |
|---|---|
| A checklist or outline with headings | Choose Markdown. Use #, ## or ### followed by a space for headings, and a dash followed by a space for each list item. |
| Text in which punctuation is meaningful | Choose Plain text to preserve Markdown-like markers. Whitespace is still wrapped and normalized, so it is unsuitable for diagrams that depend on exact spacing. |
| Wide notes or long lines | Try Landscape before reducing Body size. Keep names, references and instructions readable at the intended print size. |
| Hindi, other non-Latin scripts, emoji or complex layouts | Use an editor with the necessary fonts and export its PDF. This converter's built-in font path replaces unsupported characters with question marks. |
Turn a short Markdown checklist into an A4 handout
Use the downloadable example notes, or paste a heading followed by a paragraph and three dash-prefixed checklist items.
- Import example-notes.md and read the complete text shown in the editor. Import chooses Markdown automatically; verify that Input style still says Markdown.
- Set File name to Example project notes, Page size to A4, Orientation to Portrait, and Body size to 11 pt.
- Select Create PDF, download the result, and open it in a PDF viewer. Compare the heading, paragraph and list item order with the editor.
- For a useful comparison, reset the result and create a second copy with Plain text. Check how the heading and list markers differ before choosing the version to share.
Expected result. The Markdown version contains a larger heading and indented list items. The output uses automatically generated page breaks and fixed margins. The File name setting also supplies the PDF title; it does not add a visible title above the document text.
Check the downloaded result
- Compare the first and last sentences with the original. File imports are limited to 2 MB, and only the first 120,000 characters are retained in the editor.
- Search the exported PDF for a distinctive phrase. Check accents, punctuation, currency symbols and names visually, since a successful download does not establish character fidelity.
- Inspect page boundaries for detached headings and long words split with a hyphen. Review copied URLs against the source if an address was important.
- Check the downloaded filename and PDF title before sharing. Save the original text separately if you will need to edit the document later.
Troubleshooting
- Letters or punctuation became question marks
The current font pipeline accepts basic Latin and Latin-1 characters; other characters are replaced before layout. Common smart quotes and an Indian rupee symbol are outside that range.
Try this: Replace decorative punctuation with plain equivalents where appropriate. For names or languages that require unsupported characters, create the PDF in a font-capable editor instead of substituting the text.
- Images, links or a Markdown table did not appear correctly
Images are reduced to their alternative text, link destinations are omitted, and tables are not laid out as table cells.
Try this: Write an important URL as ordinary text, simplify the content into headings and lists, or use a full Markdown renderer for documents whose meaning depends on images or tables.
- The end of an imported document is missing
The editor keeps at most 120,000 characters, even when the imported file is below 2 MB.
Try this: Check the counter and final paragraph immediately after import. Divide a larger source into meaningful sections before conversion, then combine the reviewed PDFs if needed.
Limits and compatibility
- Formatting
- Body size supports 8–24 pt; paper choices are A4, US Letter and US Legal. Margins are fixed. There is no image embedding, automatic table of contents, custom font upload or full code syntax highlighting.
- Local handling
- Conversion runs in this browser. Download both the PDF and your editable source when needed; text still visible in a tab is not a reliable backup after refresh or closure.
Your files and form values are processed on this device. Downloaded copies remain wherever you save them. See how to check local processing and our privacy policy for site data and optional services.
Common questions
- Will bold and italic Markdown retain their appearance?
- No. Heading lines use a bold heading style, but inline emphasis markers are stripped. Verify the output if emphasis carries meaning in your instructions.
- Can I make an accessible, tagged publication here?
- Selectable text alone does not establish PDF accessibility. This tool does not provide a tagged-PDF authoring workflow or a reading-order audit; use an appropriate authoring and checking tool for that requirement.
